Clerk stops Katisya's ouster citing forgery of signatures

A planned motion to impeach Speaker of Kitui County Assembly Kevin Kinengo Katisya has hit a dead end.      

It has emerged that some MCAs who were said to back the ouster motion have since disowned the same indicating that their signatures were forged.                    

 And the Assembly  Clerk Elijah Mutambuki has on the basis of the forgery claims blocked the move to sack the  31-year-old Speaker.

The Clerk wrote to Kivou MCA Sammy Munyithya noting that eight legislators had disowned the signatures appended to the motion to impeach Katisya as being forged.

Consequently, this reduced the number of MCAs supporting the Katisya ouster to 17, effectively making them to fall below the a third required by the law for the impeachment motion to proceed. 

Kitui County Assembly has 60 MCAs. An impeachment motion has to be signed by at least 20 MCAs or one third of the members of county assembly.

"To date , eight Hon. Members have written back denying knowledge of the said signatures and some alleging forgery of their signatures/details", said the letter from clerk Mutambuki to Mr Munyithya, the MCA for Kivou Ward in Mwingi Central Sub County. The letter was dated April 11, 2023.

The Clerk returned the said motion to MCA Munyithya "for your further action". That letter saved the Kinengo ouster, at least for now.
