While appearing before the Kyuso Resident Magistrate Anne Lule, chief Daniel Mwendwa Muli denied the offence of assaulting Jerusa Muthoni.
The complainant is the wife of a prominent Nairobi businessperson Muthui Kivangwa alias Katoro.
The Prosecution opposed to him being released on bond since being a chief, he wielded immense influence among his subjects and was lively to interfere with witnesses.
In his defense, chief Muli said he was an honest man who was law abiding citizen as well as a God-fearing pastor of a local church.
He asked the magistrate to release him on a cash bail of KSh 5000 as his payslip was "running with only KSh 17,000". He promised to attend all trial hearings without fail as directed by the court.
Consequently, the court granted to chief's prayer and released him on KSh 5,000 bail.
The case will come up for pretrial mention on January 22. He was unrepresented.
