The Mwingi Professionals Caucus welcomed the move to build campus in their region. The project stalled eight years since land was donated to set up a university campus affiliated to Seku.
The professionals outfit co-ordinator Campbell Munyambu said time was nigh for the region to taste higher education at home rather than traveling long distances to quench their academic thirst.
Munyambu said that the construction was set to begin in about two to three months.
"The new VC come to start our project that has stalled for about eight years since we handed over the land for the proposed campus to Seku in April 2016. He has come as a saviour for our dream project", he said.

In 2010, Mwingi professionals mobilized funds to acquire 30 acres of land for the university campus. For it to grow to a fully fledged university, 20 more acres will be required.
Other public universities in Kitui county are located far from Mwingi. They are Kenyatta University and the University of Nairobi.
