Memories are magical and precious, and so we hopes. To the young imagination of a schoolboy or schoolgirl the very word college is wonderful  and best.It gives them delightful moments  of dreaming.

University is a place of learning and enlightenment. Every schoolgoing student dreams of enjoying him or herself of the University life to their fullest. Their dreams are not mere illusions because the college develops their personality manifold. That is why, the words; "No knowledge without college" always reigns on the lips of the collegiate.

The very word college  is magical in its nature. It fills the mind with beautiful images, hopes, dreams and ideas. As the student enters or gets admitted to college his or her heart swells up with pride and self-respect  and the mind fills with beautiful images and hopes.

The very first pleasure that a student enjoys at college or university is the difference that they find between  college or university  life and school life. In school, the rod of the teachers always hangs heavy on the student's head. They attends the classes with a sense of apprehension and depression that there is no other opinion of own or choice. On the contrary, the college or university provides them with complete freedom and they can move about and act freely.

Students in colleges feel independent to think and do anything they like. The professors are very friendly and they try to develop their self-respect and indicate in them the qualities of great people. It has been well said; "Impressive are the lecturers in college if attended attentively".

When students begin to attend classes, they feel a surprising change in themselves. They experience bliss everywhere. Their ego finds free play. There are no restrictions in the college.  There is no compulsion of attending the classes or of preparing the lessons. There is no fear of rebukes and beatings. They are treated like ladies and gentlemen whether they are in classroom or office or library or laboratory. All these things make them believe that they are in a land of freedom and dignity.  Some say in college is; "A new world of freedom..A new world  of learning".

In the academic sphere, these prevails the atmosphere of a garden where every young person can get the knowledge  of his or her choice. There are experienced professors with specialised knowledge of their respective subjects.  To aid this, there is a college library with its vast reading halls. A large number of books on every  topic provide the students a scholarly atmosphere. They can study them and enrich knowledge. They are enabled to read and think, formulate opinions and empress themselves.

"Colleges are places where pebbles are polished and diamonds are dimmed"- Robert Green.

The college moulds and shapes the students' characters. It teaches the manners and etiquette.  It teaches them how to speak gently, dress decently and behave decorously. It develops their sense of humour and love of beauty. It removes them from vulgarity and coarseness. It helps them to grow into fine ladies and gentlemen. The student learns how to use and protect their freedom. They learns self help and cooperation with others.

College life is also pleasurable for providing a large company of likeminded young men and women of same age and similar interests. They can have large number of College fellows belonging to different families, having different temperaments qualities, habits and manners. They are free to make new friends, and to learn and adopt what is good in others. That is why students becomes more polished often entering the college so that their dressing and manners improve  remarkably. Their timidity and shyness disappears and they start asserting themselves. Such healthy influences on the mind of a young man or woman prove decisive in moulding their future career and outlook of life. Their is learning all the time, not only from books, but also from their teachers and fellow students. It is said that; "College days are the most beautiful and charming days of one's life."

There are various societies and clubs to sharpen the latently facilities of the students. The cleaning society motivates the students to come to the stage to face the audience. They get rid of shyness and develops a sense of confidence. Their intellectual power is developed and literary taste is created in them. Competitions of article writing gives them impulse to write for themselves. Moreover literally meetings, social gatherings, dramatic societies  and performances contributes  a lot to the enrichment of their mind. All these activities are  sources pleasure, entertainment and enjoyment.

The college athletics and sports add much to the pleasure of the students. They do not remain book-warmers. They participate in games and sports, which are perennial fountains of health and vitality. Many of the great sportsmen and women of the world are the product of college playgrounds.

Some students spoil themselves in college. They are absorbed in the intoxicating fancies of college life. They go beyond their basic aim and are distracted from the real objective. They go astray and fall a victim of aimlessness. William Shakespeare said .."There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so."

Some students destroy themselves when they are given such a lenient atmosphere. Although, they respect, there is no use to any over spilled milk.

To conclude, college life is full of pleasure, facilities, possibilities and opportunities  of progress which cannot be available to a young man or woman in their later lives when they enter practical life. But all those things are of value to those who are willing to participate and benefit instead of hesitating and staying away and aloof.
