The government has shortlisted 8 candidates for interview to fill the position of the Managing Director of the State broadcaster, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
IEBC Communication Manager Tabitha Mutemi (left) and The Star Chief Operating Officer Ms Agnes Kalekye  are among eight Kenyans nominated to be KBC next Managing Director. They are both from Kitui County.

This was announced in an advert placed on the government’s print pullout of MyGov. on Tuesday April, 19, 2024.

Notably, among the shortlisted candidates are two women from Kitui County who have already made a name in the media circles in the country.

The duo are the current Radio Africa Chief Operating Officer Agnes Kalekye and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Communications boss Tabitha Mutemi. Ms. Kalekye is also the current chairperson of the Media Owners Association.

Ms Kalekye, a marketing guru in the media sector has worked for the top mainstream media companies in Kenya. She has alternatingly worked for both Nation Media Group and Radio Africa Group for over 15 years starting as a freelance sales executive and rising through the ranks.  On her part Ms. Mutemi a trained journalist with over 20 years of experience in communications, is the current Chairperson, Association of Professional Broadcasters (ABP) and a board member of the Media Council of Kenya (MCK). Interestingly, she started her career as a broadcaster at KBC.

The two who are the only females picked to face the interviewing panel  will face six male candidates who include Abraham Kamau (Nairobi), Christopher Khisa (Bungoma), Peter Njigua (Vihiga), Jason Nyantino (Kisii) and Peter Opondo from Kakamega

The successful candidate for the plum state job will fill in the position currently occupied by Paul Macharia in acting capacity since December last year after the appointment of Samuel Maina who was also serving in acting capacity was terminated by ICT CS Eliud Owalo.
