Illicit liquor traders put on notice

In a decisive move to uphold county regulations and ensure public safety, the Embu County Government has announced its intention to continue the closure of bars that fail to adhere to set county laws. Trade  CECM Francis Ndwiga issued a stern warning to proprietors, particularly those involved in the sale of illicit liquor, declaring that they will not be exempt from enforcement measures.

CEC Ndwiga emphasized the importance of compliance with county laws, citing concerns over the proliferation of illegal alcohol and its detrimental effects on public health and safety. "We are committed to safeguarding the well-being of our citizens," he affirmed. "Bars found flouting regulations or engaging in the sale of illicit liquor will face immediate closure."

The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over the consumption of substandard and potentially harmful alcohol within the country. Reports of alcohol-related health complications and incidents of intoxication have prompted authorities to take decisive action to curb the illicit trade.

Local residents have welcomed the government's initiative, expressing relief at the prospect of enhanced oversight within the hospitality sector. "It's about time the authorities took a stand against these unscrupulous operators," remarked one resident, who requested anonymity. "The prevalence of illicit liquor has been a longstanding issue, and it's reassuring to see the government taking proactive measures to address it."

In addition to the closure of non-compliant establishments, the county government has vowed to intensify inspections and surveillance to root out illicit liquor distributors. CECM Ndwiga urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities or outlets selling unlicensed alcohol to the relevant authorities.

The crackdown on non-compliant bars underscores the county government's commitment to upholding regulatory standards and promoting responsible alcohol consumption. With the enforcement measures set to continue, Embu residents can expect a safer and more regulated hospitality environment in the months ahead.
