Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Katisya has rubbished attempts by the Wiper party to punish him for his dalliance with President William Ruto's UDA party.
Katisya who on Tuesday confirmed that he had gotten a show cause letter from the Wiper disciplinary committee said he would not succumb to threats and intimidation by Wiper.
He said that Wiper party did not have powers to take such action against him. "I have been supporting Wiper since I am a party member but the party has no power to summon me as the Speaker," said Katisya in a text message sent to our reporter.
He reckoned that as the Speaker of Kitui County Assembly, he was not cleared or nominated by Wiper and therefore, his position was purely a decision of Kitui MCAs and not the Wiper party.
The Speaker also was emphatic the even the Wiper party sponsored and threw its weight on his predecessor George Ndotto whom he floored by the stroke of luck.
"It’s a discriminatory approach meant to intimidate, threaten and subdue me but I will not succumb," he said as he described Wiper notice to him to show cause why he should not be disciplined.
On Friday last week, Wiper party disciplinary committee vice chairman Mutinda Mutuku penned the show cause letter to Katisya.
The Speaker was accused of attending meetings hosted by President Ruto, who is the UDA party leader, at State House on May 21st and June 3rd.
He is further accused of attending a meeting in Kitui on June 6th that was hosted by Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki who is the UDA deputy party leader.
The letter told Katisya that his actions, participation and attendance of such meetings not only undermines party unity, loyalty and collective integrity but amounted to promoting, affiliating and advancing ideologies, activities and interests on another political party contrary to the Wiper Democratic Movement party constitution. "In the premise, we hereby accord you an opportunity to show cause in writing why disciplinary action should not be taken against your within 14 days of the receipt of this letter whose period terminates on or before June 27th, 2025 at 5 pm" the letter said.
But in his rejoinder, the Speaker viewed the action by the Wiper party as discriminatory and threatening and meant to finish him politically. "It’s a discriminatory approach meant to intimidate, threaten and subdue me but I will not succumb," said Katisya.
He wondered why no show cause letter was equally issued to Kitui Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani who was in State House and also attended Kindiki's empowerment program in Zombe, in Kitui East. "It’s a calculated approach to crush me politically. Wiper party leadership never supported me for speakership since their candidate was Mzee Ndoto. Why are they reprimanding me yet I was never their preference?," posed the Speaker.
He disclosed that 44 MCAs from Kitui resolved to attend the State House meetings. He added that although some Wiper MCAs have also been given show cause letters, he will defend them accordingly.
Katisya vowed to continue meeting President Dr Ruto and other national leaders alongside local leaders to push for development in Ukambani region especially Kitui County.
