Kitui County is poised to change the negative tag of being food insecure with residents embracing smart farming technologies as was displayed on the first day of 2025 devolution conference. The event, launched by President William Ruto at the Homa Bay Boys High School saw showcasing of innovative livelihood practices at the Kitui County booth. Also present was Kitui County Agriculture and Livestock CEC Dr Stephen Mbaya Kimwele and his Trade and Cooperatives counterpart Rose Mutuku.

At the Kitui County booth, the items on display included value added farm products such as sunflower, honey, mangoes as well as drought escaping crops like millet.
Others were woven mats and wooden carvings which the Akamba are prominent for as works of art.

With Kitui County having rich mineral resources, our stand was marked by exhibitions of gemstones, coal, iron ore, copper and limestone.
Trade and Cooperatives CEC Rose Mutuku lauded mining cooperative societies for exhibiting the rich mineral wealth in the county of Kitui adding that it will help the government attain social inclusion, equity and justice for all people.
"People here at the Homa Bay conference should visit our booth to see the real meaning of inclusivity. Inclusivity does not mean the government must work. It means getting people to work", said the CEC.
To achieve food security for drought prone counties like Kitui, farmers should change their mindsets from being dependent on relief food donations. They should implement climate smart agriculture in collaboration with stakeholders.
