Speaking to the press in Embu town on Monday, October 13, 2025, the residents demanded an immediate apology from Gachagua, accusing him of disrespecting Governor Cecily Mbarire and her Kirinyaga counterpart, Anne Waiguru. They said the former DP’s remarks were uncalled for and unbecoming of a leader of his stature.
Led by Milka Wawira, the residents said they were disappointed by Gachagua’s tone and language during his address, describing it as divisive and demeaning. She said Embu people value respectful leadership, not one that thrives on insults and political animosity.
“It was unfortunate for a person of Gachagua’s stature to hurl insults against elected leaders in our county. Demeaning others doesn’t translate into support or votes. He needs to rethink his leadership style,” said Wawira.
Another resident, Teresia Muthoni, echoed the sentiments, urging leaders to exercise decorum when addressing colleagues. She noted that elected officials represent the will of the people and should therefore be treated with dignity.
“We are tired of leaders who think the only way to rise politically is by insulting others. Gachagua has nothing new to offer other than harsh words. Leadership is about ideas, not insults,” Muthoni remarked.
Justus Mugendi, another resident, said it was regrettable that the former DP failed to outline any tangible development plans for the people of Embu. Instead, he allegedly spent much of his speech attacking fellow leaders in the Mt Kenya region.
“When Gachagua came here, we expected him to tell us what he intends to do for Embu. But he said nothing about development only insults. That’s disappointing and disrespectful to the people,” Mugendi lamented.
Fatuma Njoki also weighed in, calling for mutual respect among leaders regardless of their political affiliations. She said constant political bickering was derailing development in the region and creating unnecessary divisions.
“We want peace and unity in Mount Kenya. Our leaders should focus on service delivery and economic growth, not personal wars,” she said.
Gachagua on his tour to Embu County on Saturday last week said that both governor Mbarire and Waiguru are being used by the government to divide the Mt kenya region.
