The usually calm Siakago town was transformed into a sea of yellow as jubilant supporters poured into the streets, waving UDA flags, chanting slogans, and singing in praise of the government-backed candidate.
From as early as dawn, convoys of motorcycles, vehicles, and lorries snaked their way into the town, creating a carnival atmosphere rarely seen in the constituency. The massive procession brought normal business to a halt as locals lined the streets to witness the historic event.
Some business owners shut down their shops to join the charged crowd that accompanied Muthende from Siakago junction to the IEBC offices, where he was scheduled to present his nomination papers.
The event drew several leaders allied to the ruling party, signaling strong support from the government. Among those in attendance were Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi East), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), Patrick Munene (Chuka-Igambang’ombe), Ann Muratha (Kiambu Woman Rep), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Sabina Chege (Nominated MP), John Murugara (Tharaka), and Nebart Muriuki (Mbeere South).
The leaders praised Muthende for his humility and commitment to development, saying his candidature represented the government’s confidence in his ability to steer Mbeere North to greater heights.
Addressing the jubilant supporters after his clearance, Muthende expressed gratitude to the IEBC and his supporters, saying he was ready to hit the campaign trail with renewed energy.
“I am deeply humbled by this overwhelming show of love. Together, we will ensure that Mbeere North remains firmly in government so that development continues to reach every corner,” he said.
Muthende was officially cleared after meeting all IEBC requirements, paving the way for his name to appear on the ballot for the November 27 by-election.
Meanwhile, opposition candidates seeking the same seat were cleared the previous day in what was described as a tense process marred by attempts to block their clearance through court petitions.
Those who were cleared on Wednesday included CCK candidate Duncan Mbui and Democratic party candidate Newton Karish.
With the three having been cleared, focus now shifts to the campaign trail, where all the candidates are expected to mount campaigns across the Constituency to see support.
