The UDA party national organising secretary, Vincent Musyoka Kawaya, said that it was unacceptable and immoral for policemen to fleece the poor motorcyclists who could hardly put food on the table for their families.
Kawaya who was addressing hundreds of boda boda men from Mwingi North constituency on Thursday said due to the notoriety of demanding for bribes by policemen,he would stealthily plant EACC sleuths in the area.
“I will have EACC detectives pose as boda boda riders and once police officers ask for money from them thinking that they were ordinary boda boda men, they will be arrested,” said Kawaya.
Kawaya who is the MP for Mwala had led legislators,Tabitha Mutinda, Joshua Mwalyo, Beth Syengo and Nairobi gubernatorial seat hopeful, Patrick Mbangula and Kitui Speaker Kevin Katisya, in spearheading an empowerment event for local boda boda riders at Katse Vocational Centre in Mumoni ward.
During the occasion, he announced that President William Ruto had sent his donation of Sh. 2 million for the boda boda cyclists while his personal support was Sh. 200,000.
Other donations included Sh. 100,000 from Syengo (ODM nominated Senator) Sh. 50,000 each from Mutinda (UDA Nominated Senator) and Mwalyo (MP for Masinga) and Sh. 20,000 from Mbangula, a former MCA in the Nairobi City Assembly.
Kawaya said should the policemen think that there was more earnings in boda boda business they should do the honourable thing to resign and become boda boda people instead of harassing the motorcyclists.
He said he was shocked and surprised to learn that policemen allegedly demanded from each boda boda rider Sh. 100 every Friday.
He at the same time said in the ongoing countrywide boda boda empowerment programme, cyclist would be assisted to own electric motorcycle which were cheaper to manage besides being efficient.
