Kitui County Government is considering ending a ninety nine year lease of a 23109 acre piece of land in Kanyonyoo area, Kitui Rural sub county. The devolved unit holds that B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative Society breached terms of engagement. As such, CECM for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Fredrick Kimanga issued a notice of termination of the lease.
"The decision by the Cooperative Society to subdivide and sublet LR No 11802 without the approval of the leasor violates the conditions of the lease," reads a notice letter by CECM Kimanga. It was addressed to the chairperson of B2 Yatta Society.
The Lands CECM goes on to say, "The county government is at liberty to terminate the lease on account of your conduct that contravenes the conditions of the lease."
The lease was officially supposed to lapse in 2064.
Due to the seriousness of land matters, the notice letter was copied to Governor Dr Julius Malombe, Kitui County Head of Police as well as the County Head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations,DCI. Also in copy were the CEO of EACC and the County Lands Registrar.
Further, Kitui Lands CECM Kimanga placed a public notice to warn members of the public to desist from buying the land in question as it was only meant for ranching purpose.
"Take further notice that any person(s) purchasing or leasing portions of LR No 11802 shall do so at their own risk ".
