President William Ruto led both national and county government leaders in a development tour to inspect projects valued at Sh20 billion in Kitui county on Thursday. This covered both ongoing and newly commissioned projects. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki,  Governor Julius Malombe, Cabinet Secretaries Alfred Mutua,  Labour, Alice Wahome,  Lands, Rebecca Miano, Tourism and Davis Chirchir accompanied the Head of State. According to a PCS communique shared with the media, Mwingi North sub county was among the biggest winners of the President's tour.

In Kamuwongo town,  the President handed over a fresh produce market to the County Government of Kitui.
"The traders of this area now have a safe and dignified place to work from said Dr Ruto.

The fresh produce market will host 200 traders and will feature modern amenities such as an ICT hub, cafeteria,  baby nursing rooms , among others.

Since Kitui County has limited road network, the Kenya Kwanza administration is upgrading some 160km of new roads. The Head of State launched the tarmacking of 13km Kamuwongo-Kandwia road estimated to cost Sh 1Billion upon completion. It had stalled for eight years.

Another 30km Kyuso-Tseikuru road is in the works, said President Ruto. The CS for Roads Davis Chirchir was directed to commence its construction soon.

In Mwingi West sub county,  the President inspected 33km Tulia-Migwani-Mbondoni road that will open up the region to major Nairobi-Garissa highway.

Observers see these as forays of President William Ruto into Opposition strongholds in readiness for 2027 general elections given the region is a solid bastion for Wiper Patriotic Front's party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.
