Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has issued a stern warning to Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, urging him to refrain from utterances that could demean local leaders or undermine peace in Mbeere North.

The caution comes as campaigns intensify ahead of the constituency’s by-election scheduled for November 27.
Senator Mundigi raised concerns over a pattern of insults from the former Deputy President, who is expected to campaign extensively in the constituency for the United Opposition candidate, Newton Karish. The senator stated that Gachagua has repeatedly used disrespectful language, describing Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Mundigi himself, and other local leaders as "stupid."
Mundigi emphasized that respect for elected leaders must remain paramount, even in the heat of political competition.
Characterizing the DCP leader as impulsive, Senator Mundigi acknowledged Gachagua’s democratic right to campaign for his preferred candidate. However, he asserted that this right does not extend to attacking leaders who do not support his political agenda.
The Embu senator also strongly condemned allegations made by Gachagua that the government had hired goons to disrupt his campaign rallies. Mundigi suggested that these claims could be a projection, hinting that it might be Gachagua himself who is planning to orchestrate chaos at his own events to blame the government.
He argued that Gachagua’s consistent inflammatory rhetoric proves he is uncalled for and that his allegations are a strategic ploy to turn innocent citizens against the government for his own selfish political gains.
Shifting to the stakes of the by-election, Senator Mundigi called for peaceful campaigns and urged voters to focus on development. He observed that Mbeere North residents would benefit more by electing a candidate who supports the government's development agenda.
He warned residents against being swayed by national politics geared toward the 2027 general election, advising them instead to focus on electing a leader capable of lobbying effectively for local projects. These projects, he said, should include the upgrading of roads to bitumen standards, the construction of dams for irrigation, and other essential developments.
The senator concluded by maintaining that Embu County has already seen significant benefits from government-backed projects and that Mbeere North should follow suit by electing a leader who aligns with the current administration.
