Students face many difficulties in their lives such as exams that is failing or not reaching expectations, family expectations and social pressures. These challenges can lead to stress, anxiety and sometimes depression if not properly managed.
One of the main reasons mental health is important for students is its direct impact on academic performance. A student who is struggling with stress, anxiety, or depression may find it difficult to concentrate, retain information, or stay motivated. This often leads to poor grades, missed deadlines, and a lack of confidence in their abilities. On the other hand, students with good mental health are more likely to stay focused, manage their time effectively, and perform better in their studies.
In addition, mental health plays a major role in shaping students’ emotional and social development. School is not only a place for academic learning but also a space where students build friendships, learn communication skills, and develop their identity.
Poor mental health can lead to isolation, low self-esteem, and difficulty forming meaningful relationships. Supporting mental well-being helps students interact positively with others and build strong support systems.
Another important aspect is the pressure. students face in modern society. Many students experience stress from exams, parental expectations, financial struggles, and the need to succeed in a competitive world. Without proper coping mechanisms, this pressure can become overwhelming.
Promoting mental health awareness equips students with tools such as stress management, emotional regulation, and resilience, enabling them to handle challenges. To maintain good mental health, students should take break, talk to trusted friends or family members and participate in activities they enjoy. Schools should also provide guidance and counselling services to help students cope with stress.
Mental health should be taken seriously. When students take care of their mental well-being, they are more likely to succeed both academically and personally and therefore mental health should be taken seriously among students.
