Despite it being a festive season, livestock prices dropped in Tseikuru market on Thursday.
Small and middle sized goats fetched less than KSh 7000 each. When we visited, sellers avoided middlemen who were staged on the banks of Kamanga, Muuna and Nziitu rivers. Nziitu is the one nearest to the biggest livestock market in Mwingi.
A middleman declined to buy goats he usually buys at KSh10,000 saying that he may not recoup the amount if he takes them to another market.
But as for cattle, the prices were relatively stable with a small-sized bull costing KSh 40,000. The largest retailed at KSh 100,000.
Mr Makau Mulila, a goat trader told our reporter that goats that are well- fed and strong are likely to fetch higher prices. But those that were lean or lactating cost less.
