Kitui County is implementing a plan to achieve universal water coverage by the year 2030.
Water and Irrigation CECM Peter Nkunda said the ultimate goal was to strive to ensure universal water coverage by 2030 by prioritizing remote and underserved parts of Kitui County.
The county Minister for Water and Irrigation was speaking when he commissioned Mbakoni Borehole water supply project in Kitui South constituency. It serves over 500 households and Mbakoni primary school community that enjoy reliable access to water.
"We will continue working together in other planned water and irrigation projects to improve the livelihoods of county residents" , Nkunda pledged.
The project in Muamba/Monguni village of Athi Ward was funded by the British Red Cross at a cost of KSh 5 million. Its implementation was supervised by the Kenya Red Cross in collaboration with the County Government of Kitui.
The project has a solarized water pumping system meant to reduce the cost of running and maintaining operations.
