Matinyani Boys' Secondary School in Kitui West subcounty in Kitui county outshone in the Eastern regions as the best performed school in 2022 KCPE exams beating the best schools like Muthale Girls, St. Charles Lwanga, Kitui School among the others which traditionally appeared on the top list.
However, the 2023 results left teachers, students and parents in a state of disbelief after the results which were obtained from the portal for individual student for this Matinyani Boys school and shared to social media have a W as a designated mark. This means that the results are withheld by the Kenya National Examination Council [KNEC] for the said reasons of exams cheating and the investigation are ongoing.
This came after there was a case connected with the schools heads who alleged that they were involved with exams irregularities and were reported to DCI and summoned for questioning.
