COLLINS:Why marriages ends in divorce nowadays

Finding proper solutions to the frequent cases of divorce in marriages has become a complicated and very complex issue among the youth. Many young people are now in a panic because of their unknown future, especially regarding marriage life.

Considering the uncertainty of this life, many are now wondering who is the right person and what is the right time to get into this complicated issue. Another big question also arises concerning who is the right person to consult.  Peers, parents, mentors, role models, or perhaps trust your gut or even go wherever the wind takes you and let your primal desires surface and take the reins. 

It is a quandary that weighs heavily on a youth's mind. It is becoming common knowledge that most marriages end in divorce, the average length before divorce being eight years. This has spiked fear among youths who intend to proceed to this next stage in life.

In the past year alone, an alarming 20% rise in divorce cases has been recorded compared to the previous year. This translates to approximately 25,000 families facing the emotional and legal consequences of separation annually.

Even though after divorce the same people get into the second and third marriages, still this is not the remedy since divorce chances are even higher in these subsequent marriages compared to the first one.

Divorce can have surprising and long-lasting consequences. One of which is an increased risk of early death. Sadly, the mortality rate is 1,363 per 100,000 for the divorced compared with 779 per 100,000 for married couples. The fear of being abandoned and the emotional trauma have made most of the youths feel like they’re not ready to dive into such a chaotic life.

The question of who’s the right person to cross over with to the next stage of life has led many youths to make poor decisions considering the appropriate time required. According to statistics, couples who cohabitate before marriage have the highest chances of divorce. The causes of divorce mostly in marriages are known. For example: infidelity, lack of commitment, financial issues, desertion, cruelty, and adultery among others. And because these couples may not have matured enough while picking their partners, they reach a point and feel they can’t continue. They give up on the marriage!

Despite the complexity of the issue of how one courts another, the solution considering the causes of divorce may not be as difficult as it seems. Following statistics showing that couples with divorced friends are most likely to divorce, then one can infer that the primary cause of such divorces originates from the influence of friends and frequent company. Avoiding this therefore can prove effective.

Couples should also embrace intimacy, dialogue, and frequent meaningful communication, be sensitive to financial issues, and most importantly, take time to know and understand their partner fully before the advent of marriage.

It is everyone’s wish to have a stable family life free from dissension, dissatisfaction, and uncertainties. Therefore, proper due diligence and thoughtfulness must be invested in this course if success is to be achieved.
