Family identifies Ciokereke woman who drowned in Tana River

The family of Ms Nancy Kagendo Njagi has identified her body about two weeks after she was swept away by raging floods in Ciokereke area. The deceased's body was recovered by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Tseikuru, Mwingi North Sub County.

Confirming the incident, Kyuso Sub County Mortician Mr Munyao Gideon said the 38-year-old died by drowning in Tana River. "The body was found at Ciokereke village, Tana River and brought to Kyuso mortuary by DCI officer from Tseikuru", Munyao told MWINGI TIMES in an interview.

 She comes from Kianjeru location.

On Sunday morning, a mortician from Ciokereke told us that the deceased had missing limbs. He added that she may have suffered epilepsy as the left hand was burned and the right one was burned near the elbow. These were the only identifiable features at the time before the family traveled to identify the body of Ms Njagi.

On the night of May 5 this year, an assistant chief from Kasakini sublocation in Kitui West Sub County was swept by a swollen river. Confirming the incident, Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto passed his condolences to the local administrator's family and urged locals to avoid risking their lives by crossing flooded rivers. That was the first case of fatality from the March -May rain season in Kitui County.
