Kitui Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua has reiterated his push for creation of Mwingi County saying that President William Ruto should make sure it is done terming it a 2022 presidential campaign pledge. Speaking at Kisovo trading centre in Mwingi Central, the senator said devolution was designed to bring services close to wananchi but those living in Mwingi cannot access some important services only available by traveling hundreds of kilometers to the county headquarters in Kitui town.

While giving an example of how services are far from access to residents, he said the recent inauguration of Mwingi Municipality board should have been done to the officials in Mwingi town not in Kitui town. The residents concurred with his sentiments.
Due to the vastness of Kitui County, the senator added, it has witnessed entrenched marginalization of certain regions especially those far from county headquarters like Mwingi.
"I have travelled from Mutomo to here in Kisovo since I am your senator. Residents of Ukasi are waiting for me. Is that not a lot for work to do?
We want us to make our county of Kitui to have two counties: Kitui and Mwingi counties so that for Mwingi people, leadership will get closer to you."
