Musila brands Kalonzo a liar

Former Kitui Senator David Musila has asked Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to stop yoking the Kamba community into his party for his egocentric gains but instead give them political space to coalesce with President William Ruto and his administration.

Mr Musila said in every five year election period, Kalonzo emerges with a clarion call to the community to support his bid to State House, hence blocking them from accessing tangible development and other goodies from the president who forms the subsequent government.

He asked the former Vice President to give “politically enslaved” people living in Kitui, Makueni and Machakos free hand to work closely with the government of the day so that they are not encumbered by intimidation and manipulation.

Musila said leaders, including MCAs, MPs and county governments, from Ukambani and Kenya in general must lobby and work diligently with the government of the day to guarantee development equity to any region and the country at large. He said this principle is basic in political theory and practice.

“I urge Kalonzo to stop yoking Kambas to the lie he is becoming the next president. This is a self-esteem lie with far reaching consequences to the community and the country,” the former Senator said.

Musila spoke at a burial ceremony of the late great-granny, Mutwa Mulindu alias Wangunda, 115, at her Migwani village home, Mwingi West, Kitui  last Saturday.

The former Wiper party chairman who fell out with Kalonzo in 2017 said that Kalonzo has played a devastating role in standing in between governments of the day and preventing the community from receiving or enjoying  fruits of the national cake from sitting presidents for the last 17 years.

He said the tarmacking of the Kitui-Kibwezi-Kabati-Migwani-Mbondoni road has stalled at Kwa-Siku in his Kalonzo’s home turf Kitui County four years ago for lack of goodwill and hard political stance taken by Wiper and allied leaders in the three Ukambani counties.

He said he personally whispered to President Ruto to prioritize tarmacking of the crucial road network that was abandoned midway in 2020, some 25 kilometers away.

Musila said in a democratic society once leaders - from the ruling group and the opposition - are elected, it is their constitutional mandate to engage the ruling  government so that it can efficiently deliver public services to the leaders' constituencies. He said the government and the Opposition are not meant to be at war.

“It is not the legitimate function of an Opposition to block a national government from accessing any area of a country or the leaders thereof for developmental engagement. This would be tantamount to partial secession,” he said.

Musila said Kalonzo since he worked closely with the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, he must have noticed that even as leader of the Opposition, Raila worked, even under heavy criticism, with former presidents Daniel Arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta and now Ruto for purposes of, inter alia, ensuring the government of the day had no reason to allege it had no access to areas politically controlled by him (Raila).

The former Senator said in 2027 every Kenyan will have a right to choose their political path adding that working with the government of the day to facilitate smooth delivery of services does not mean that a leader will be forced to change his/her political affiliation.
