STORY By PAUL MUTUA

Former Kitui Senator David Musila and Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna have attributed impressive 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results at Kyamboo Mixed Secondary School in Migwani ward in Nguna’s constituency to students’ academic resilience, teachers’ devotion, commitment and team work by all stakeholders.

Musila and Nguna said the school has made the constituency proud by posting an 8.76 mean score in last year’s exam up from 7.24 in the previous year. The school had a candidature of 99 students of which 98 scored a mean grade of C+ and above, retaining its number one position in Migwani sub County and number three in Kitui County.

They spoke at the school during the institution’s prize-giving day where a scholar, Dr Catherine Ndumu was the chief speaker. Present also were Migwani MCA Harrison Maluki and the school Board Of Management chairman Eng Kavindu Nguli.

Musila said he was optimistic that with the school’s motto “strong to serve”, it remained possible for the school to perform better in this year’s KCSE exam.

Nguna said with students’ population of 522 last year and 452 this year, the school has put the constituency’s ranking in education in the county at the right track and hoped it will maintain the tempo in producing all-round students who will be joining universities and tertiary institutions now and in future.

The two leaders joined the school management in financing a trip to Zanzibar Island in Tanzania for all 19 teachers, support staff and the school management board as a symbol to thank them for the exciting academic efforts.

The principal Mr John Mile said the school was guided by its vision to produce competent and innovative students who fit in the dynamic world. He said the good performance was cemented in their core values of honesty, integrity, dedication and excellence.

“We have agreed to be that ‘school with a difference’. All the staff have a slogan of ‘tujitume kazi’. Our specific strengths include a well-motivated students’ body and self displined students’ body,” Mile said.

The principal said they faced a twin challenge in a congested girls’ dormitory and the only dining hall turned into a boys’ dormitory.
