Speaking after a church service at Kigaa ACK Church in Runyenjes, Mundigi criticized Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu over his remarks encouraging Raila to align with Gachagua. According to Mundigi, Raila is only politically safe in the hands of President William Ruto, adding that those pushing for a Raila-Gachagua partnership were the same leaders who vigorously opposed the ODM chief in Mt. Kenya during the 2022 polls.
“These leaders told us in 2022 that Raila was unsellable in Mt. Kenya. What has changed now? This is nothing but crocodile tears and desperation from the opposition after the Ruto-Raila pact,” Mundigi stated.
The Embu Senator lauded both President Ruto and Raila for putting aside their differences and agreeing to work together, terming the move a step in the right direction for national unity. He urged Mt. Kenya residents to continue rallying behind the president, especially after he ensured the Deputy President’s position remained in the region following Gachagua’s impeachment.Ruto picked Prof.Kithure Kindiki after Gachagua impeachment.
“We stand to benefit more from the Ruto-Raila alliance. Those telling Raila to join Gachagua are misleading him and are simply panicking,” he added.
His remarks come after Senator Nyutu, while attending the burial of fallen pilot James Gitahi in Machakos County, openly told Raila that his best chance at winning the next election lay in forging an alliance with Gachagua.
As political realignments gain momentum ahead of 2027, the debate on Raila’s future alliances continues to stir tension among leaders across the political divide.
