RISE OF SEXUAL IMMORALITY IN YOUTHS TODAY

STORY By BRIAN SHIVULU JESJERI

In recent years, there has been a growing concern over the rise of sexual immorality among young people. Reports from schools, communities, and religious organizations suggest that more youths are engaging in risky sexual behaviors, leading to consequences such as teenage pregnancies, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and moral decay.
The rising trend of sexual immorality among the youth is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention.

Experts point to several factors contributing to this trend. The influence of social media, lack of parental guidance, exposure to explicit content, and peer pressure have all played significant roles in shaping young people’s attitudes toward sex. Unlike previous generations, today’s youth have easy access to the internet, where unfiltered content normalizes casual relationships and promotes a culture of instant gratification.

Television programs, music videos, and online platforms frequently showcase sexualized content, shaping how young minds perceive relationships and intimacy. Many teenagers see these portrayals as a standard, leading them to experiment without fully understanding the emotional and physical consequences.

Another major factor is the decline in parental supervision and sex education. Many parents shy away from discussing these topics, leaving children to learn from unreliable sources. Schools, too, often provide limited guidance, focusing only on the biological aspects of sex rather than addressing emotional and ethical responsibilities.

The impact of this rise in sexual immorality is evident in increasing rates of teenage pregnancies and STIs. Studies show that young people engaging in unprotected sex are more likely to face health risks, emotional distress, and disrupted education. Additionally, early sexual activity has been linked to higher rates of depression and anxiety among teenagers.

To address this growing issue, a collective effort is required from parents, educators, religious leaders, and society as a whole. Open conversations at home, comprehensive sex education in schools, and responsible media consumption are essential in guiding young people toward making informed and moral decisions. Religious and community organizations can also play a role by providing mentorship and moral teachings that emphasize self-respect and discipline.

The rising trend of sexual immorality among youth is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention. If left unchecked, it could lead to long-term consequences for individuals and society. It is crucial for all stakeholders to take proactive steps in educating and guiding young people to make responsible choices about their bodies and relationships.
