A former MCA aspirant in Embu County met a dramatic and fatal end in Embu West after a bold prison break attempt turned deadly.
Swaleh Abdalla, popularly known as Oswando, who once sought the Kirimari Ward MCA seat in the 2022 General Elections, was shot dead by police at Gatondo area as he tried to flee from custody after a court session in Siakago.
According to Embu West Sub County Police Commander Vincent Kitili, Oswando a murder suspect had just been escorted into a prison van alongside other inmates when he suddenly turned the tables on his captors.
“He whipped out pepper and sprayed it into the eyes of the unsuspecting officers inside the van, causing panic and confusion. In the chaos, he leapt out and made a run for it,” said Kitili.
But even with stinging eyes, one officer managed to jump out and give chase while the others swiftly secured the remaining prisoners.
Kitili said the escapee sprinted through Gatondo village eventually diving into a construction site where he armed himself with a machete.
“He started threatening the officer with a panga, shouting at him not to dare come closer. But the officer stood his ground and continued pursuing him,”Kitili said.
Ignoring repeated calls to surrender, Oswando allegedly charged at the officer forcing the law enforcer to open fire.
“He was neutralized as he advanced with the weapon,” Kitili confirmed.
