The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku has condemned what he described as “insult-filled, hostile, and deceptive utterances” from leaders allied to the United Opposition during their Saturday rallies in Embu and Kirinyaga Counties.

Ruku took issue with the Opposition brigade led by impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing them of using public forums to malign elected leaders and distort the government’s development record.
Speaking after attending a Sunday church service today 12th October 2025 , at Full Gospel Church in Mbeere North Embu county, the CS said the Opposition was pursuing a campaign built on anger, vengeance, and falsehoods rather than offering credible policy ideas. He cited their public speeches in Makutano, Kiritiri, Runyenjes, and Embu Town, where they alleged lack of government projects despite standing near major ongoing works.
“They hurled insults at Engineer Nebart Muriuki, the Mbeere South MP, Runyenjes MP Eric Muchangi, and even demeaned Governors Cecily Mbarire and Anne Waiguru; leaders who are diligently serving their people instead of engaging in petty politics,” said Ruku.
He criticized the Opposition’s contradictions, noting that their accusations came as they stood beside multi-million-shilling government projects, among them the nearly complete Makutano ESP Modern Market (85%), Machang’a County Aggregation and Industrial Park (90%), Ishiara ESP Market (95%), Karurumo Market in Runyenjes, and the ongoing Embu Town ESP Market (65%).
The CS further accused the Opposition of fueling unrest, referring to the incident in Runyenjes where a private firearm holder allegedly opened fire and an MP was caught on camera brandishing a crude weapon while chasing members of the public.
“This is a disgraceful conduct. Leaders must rise above political drama and promote peace, especially as we head into the Mbeere North by-election,” Ruku stated.
He called on Opposition figures to embrace calm and issue-oriented campaigns, asserting that Mbeere North residents "had already decided to back UDA candidate" Leo Muriuki wa Muthende, whom he described as the natural successor of the constituency’s transformative agenda he himself once spearheaded before joining the Cabinet.
Ruku commended the success of the Imarisha Elimu programme, crediting it with boosting academic results in the area, and accused the Opposition of trying to frustrate bursary issuance citing remarks made by former Attorney General Justin Muturi.
“This is the kind of destructive politics Kenyans should reject politics that denies children education and stalls development just for political mileage,” he remarked.
The CS highlighted key ongoing national projects, including the tarmacking of the Gikuyari–Kirii–Ishiara road, whose tender has already been advertised, and the expansion of the Last Mile Connectivity Project to illuminate rural villages and enhance security for school-going children.
He urged leaders across the political divide to prioritize unity and service to the people rather than division and hostility.
