The government has defended a series of ongoing development projects in Mbeere North, insisting that the initiatives are part of the broader national transformation agenda not politically motivated moves to woo voters ahead of the upcoming by-election.

Speaking at Ndutori Village in Mumenji Ward during the commissioning of a rural electrification project, Principal Secretary for Energy, Alex Wachira, emphasized that the government’s commitment to delivering services cuts across all constituencies in Kenya. He said the projects in Mbeere North mirror similar developments being rolled out in other parts of the country.
“The government’s development agenda is not selective. We are connecting homes to electricity, constructing roads, and providing water because all Kenyans deserve better services not because of politics,” said Wachira.
The PS noted that Mbeere North alone has received Sh303 million under the rural electrification program, a move aimed at expanding energy access and powering growth in rural areas. He revealed that over 150 households in Mumenji have already been connected to the national grid under the Last Mile Connectivity Project.
Wachira urged local leaders to rise above political bickering and focus on how the ongoing projects would transform livelihoods across the constituency. He challenged Opposition figures to embrace development and work with government agencies for the benefit of residents.
“Let’s not politicize development. Electricity means businesses can thrive, schools can operate longer hours, and health centres can save lives. That’s what matters most to our people,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, who dismissed claims that the government had abandoned the Gikuyari–Kirie Road project. Mbugua confirmed that the road had already been allocated funds and that construction would commence soon.
“Some leaders are spreading misinformation that there’s no budget for the Gikuyari–Kirie Road. I want to assure residents that the project is fully funded and will proceed as planned,” the PS clarified.
Mbugua said improved road infrastructure remains a key priority for the Kenya Kwanza administration, adding that reliable roads would open up markets, attract investors, and improve connectivity across Mbeere North.
On his part, UDA candidate Leonard Muthende praised the government’s efforts, saying the residents of Mbeere North had every reason to remain aligned with the government to continue reaping the fruits of national development.
“Mbeere North is witnessing real transformation from electrification and road construction to water projects. We must continue walking with the government to sustain this progress,” said Muthende.
He dismissed Opposition politics as “empty rhetoric,” urging locals to focus on tangible development rather than divisive propaganda.
