Getting digital tasks for platforms like Timebucks is a big flashpoint of conflict not just among newbies but also veterans. Having survived a month-long ban over what the Australian authorities termed fraud, I am convinced that much needs to be done to correct the flawed system.
When I contacted an expert who knows better, that I was banned, he asked, "Is it an issue about VPN?". I said no.
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, a digital identity for your computer device that locates you in order to be awarded gigs for eligibility.
The matter that led to my work stoppage was to do with surveys. A client was looking for responses about a long range of questions about how the USA uses foreign aid to advance its diplomatic interests even if it meant at the expense of partners and recipients.
Of course, after acing the surveys, I got the rewards sent to my job account. But the client sort of flagged my account due to stereotypes that it was earned within a single day and it was "too much" hence likely to be fraud.
Can't Africans and the Global South do similar tasks as Western ones for equal pay? What measures are used to declare an African as being fraudulent for their intellectual productivity which is "okay" if done by the Whites?
While my account was restored having not been found culpable, this is a bold call out to systems which disadvantage Africans' labour. The next revolution will be digital. And it's underway!
