I skipped Mashujaa Day celebrations because I was not invited -Sen Wambua

By MWINGI TIMES CORRESPONDENT

It has emerged that Kitui senator Enoch Wambua skipped the Mashujaa Day celebrations held in his home county due to the government's failure to extend an invitation to him. In an interview, he said that many leaders from Lower Eastern region skipped the national event due to being left out by organisers.

The Wiper Patriotic Front party senator said it was wise to keep off national and presidential events if you're not invited because they are dictated by protocols and gatecrashing without invitations would be disruptive. "They come with protocols. You just don't walk in. In fact, what we are saying is very true. I have been a witness to situations where leaders go to events to which they are not invited and they have no place to sit. They have no one to usher them in", explained Wambua.

However, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said a personal invitation was sent to Senator Wambua through his Senate office but he maintained he never received any invitation to attend Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium. Contacted by MWINGI TIMES, Mwaura said, "leaders could be invited and choose not to attend then come out to say that they were not invited". He further opined that such situations happen when leaders had political scores to settle terming it dishonesty.

In a television interview, senator Enoch Wambua excused his absence from Mashujaa Day celebrations saying he sought permission from his electorate to skip the event. Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka was also a no show.
