The battle for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat has intensified, with Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) candidate Duncan Mbui urging voters to shun attempts to impose a so-called “preferred candidate” on them.

Mbui, who is serving as Evurore Ward MCA, said the by-election presents an opportunity for residents to elect a leader based on merit, ideas, and track record rather than party affiliations or external influence.
Addressing over 1,000 bodaboda riders at Ishiara Market, Mbui dismissed claims that the race should be narrowed to a single candidate endorsed by certain political figures. He described such maneuvers as an insult to the people’s democratic right to choose freely.
“There are some leaders in the region pushing for a ‘preferred candidate.’ I want to tell you to clearly ignore them. This election is not about who is chosen for you, but about who has the best plan for Mbeere North,” Mbui told the cheering crowd.
He emphasized that every aspirant must table a clear development agenda, outlining how they intend to transform the constituency. According to Mbui, Mbeere North voters deserve more than party slogans and empty rhetoric.
“Each candidate should sell their manifesto and explain what they will do for the people. Party politics will not build roads, create jobs, or improve services. Leadership must be about action and accountability,” he added.
Mbui also sought to clear the air regarding speculation about his political alignment. He rejected claims that his party enjoys government backing through its association with former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria.
“I have never sat with any government official to discuss Mbeere North politics. Those spreading propaganda that I am on the government side are misleading you. Kuria himself is no longer in government. We are saying one-term in Opposition brigade,” Mbui stated.
By positioning himself in the Opposition, Mbui argued that he would serve as an independent voice for the people free from government influence and better placed to hold the State accountable.
He highlighted his record as Evurore MCA, noting that his years in grassroots leadership have equipped him with the experience to represent the entire constituency in Parliament effectively.
“My time as your MCA has given me the skills and knowledge needed to serve at a higher level. I understand the challenges we face, from poor infrastructure to youth unemployment, and I am ready to fight for solutions,” he assured.
Mbui expressed confidence in victory, saying the warm reception he received across the constituency is proof that Mbeere North voters are hungry for authentic leadership that prioritizes their needs.
