Jackline Njeri from Miandari village delivered the three babies at Embu Level 5 Hospital, but instead of celebrating the miracle of new life, she is now crying out for support from well-wishers to help her shoulder the enormous burden.
Speaking from her hospital bed, Jackline narrated how her husband abandoned her during pregnancy. Despite informing him of the children’s birth, he has refused to show up even once to see his newborns.
“I separated with my husband when I was pregnant. Each time I call him, he promises to call me back but it never happens. Now that the children are here, I am on my own. That is why I am pleading for help,” she said, her voice breaking with emotion.
Jackline explained that the birth of triplets was completely unexpected, and with no job or reliable source of income, she fears she cannot provide the babies with even the most basic needs such as diapers, clothing and formula.
On top of caring for the triplets, Jackline also has another child at home who is waiting for her care and attention. “I already have a little one at home, and now with three more, I don’t know how to manage without help. My heart is heavy,” she added.
The triplets, two girls and one boy, were with good weight. According to Embu County Executive Committee Member for Health, Jamal Runyenje, the first child weighed 1800 grams, the second 1650, and the third just 1440 grams.
“The babies are stable but delicate. They require constant care, warmth, and proper feeding to gain weight and grow healthy,” Runyenje said during his visit to Jackline at the hospital.
He noted that Jackline had not registered for the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme, but Governor Cecily Mbarire had promised that the county government will enroll and pay for her cover for one year to ease her medical burden.
Even with this support, Jackline says her greatest challenge remains the daily expenses of raising four children alone. She appealed to well-wishers, community members, and leaders to come forward and give a helping hand.
“This is a blessing. Yes, but it has come with challenges I cannot manage alone. Anyone who can help me with food, clothing, diapers, or even a kind word will make a difference,” she pleaded.
As she holds her tiny babies in the hospital ward, Jackline hopes that heaven will open for her and get aid to her new born babies.
