Delivering his New Year message, the MP called on his electorate to change the attitude of avoiding hospitals for fear of  being diagnosed with terminal diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer.
“These three diseases I am talking about that are killing our people are  diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer. My concern is that many people avoid being tested for those maladies,” said the legislator.

The MP was speaking at his rural Malili village in Kyuso Sub County  of his Mwingi  North Constituency  during an end of the  year party and  night  vigil to usher in the New Year 2024.
His relatives and  community members ushered the New Year with fireworks and song and dance.

“It should be a routine for those who are aged 40 years and above to go for constant medical check ups.The three illnesses are killing our people at a fast  rate although  they are  treatable,” he said.
He said his concern was that many a people avoid visiting hospitals for tests for the three illnesses to their detriment.
“But the bottom line is that people should be tested regularly in order to know their status early enough in order to get a way to confront and manage their conditions through treatment,” he advised.

“Once you visit and hospital, it is important to seek to be tested  for cancer. Some of these tests are  not as expensive as  people think and can save life,” he added.
The MP said one of his doctors had opened up to him that once cancer is detected early at stage one, it was treatable but at stage four it becomes terminal and a patient hardly get healed.
“I plead with you not to shun hospitals. Let's be tested frequently. Once any illness is detected and diagnosed early, it can be managed  effectively. Getting to hospital too late could lead to disastrous results,” said Nzengu.
