Livestock prices dimmed as back to school preparations went on in Mwingi. Parents and guardians sell goats and cattle to educate their children and with school fees being out of reach for many households, Tseikuru market was flooded with traders angling for top cuts.
When MWINGI TIMES asked Ms Jedidah Kimwele the costs of her three goats, they seemed a bit slashed from previous markets by up to KSh2000. A large sized male goat went for KSh13000 in Tseikuru. A medium sized billy cost KSh10000 while a recently weaned one was ranging from KSh4500 to 7500.
Female goats sold a bit higher than billies. A medium sized one (muoma) retailed between KSh 8000 to 10000 depending on size and vitality.
Today's traders had less interest in cattle. KSh 35000 was still a good deal for farmers selling medium sized cows. "This is still high price", said a buyer.
