The young adult represents the future of any society. However, this phase of adulation is marked by a plethora of trials and triumphs. The challenges and victories encountered by a person during this period allow for space for personal growth and self-discovery.
As young people get to the age of adulting, most of them have the urge to attain self-dependency. Indeed, it is a good idea but you find most of them take desperate measures which may affect them mentally, emotionally, or even physically. For example, young boys and girls have taken the risk of joining online jobs which cost them a quite good amount of money to be guaranteed to be part of the job. For most, it is quite a cumbersome situation to raise such a huge amount of money. Now we hear the government through this DCI’s office alerting citizens that there is a SCAM ALERT of criminals using cryptocurrency investment programs to scam Kenyans. It will not be a surprise to hear young people being scammed because they are the ones who majority take part in the job.
Young people engage in substance abuse i.e. alcohol, tobacco, khat, and velo which is currently becoming an addictive substance.
People will blame the young users for using this substance but they don’t take the initiative to ask them what pushes them to use these drugs. Most people assume it is peer pressure or they just choose to use them sometimes. This sometimes is not the case.
Parents also take part in making their children use drugs. For example, campus students use drugs because of education, pressure, loneliness, failed relationships or even family issues which they find it hard to share with their peers.
Unemployment has become a rampant issue among the young people. This is not only a problem to unskilled young people but also the skilled ones.
Every year, students graduate from universities wishing to secure jobs out there but it ends up only being a wish. This is why you find young girls engaging in jobs that destroy their lives. Recently there have been cases of femicides. Young girls are dying desperately because of wanting to fulfill their needs. They don’t take this step willingly. It is due to circumstances. That is why men take advantage. They demand more from a lady and if she fails she ends up being killed.
Despite the challenges, young adulthood have victories that they enjoy. Young adulthood offers a unique opportunity for self-discovery and personal growth, through extrapolation and introspection. Individuals uncover their passions, strengths, and values laying a foundation for a fulfilling life. For example, young people engage in online content creation. It is a field full of negativity but most young people are using it as a bridge to their success. Individuals like Azziad Nasenya discovered herself and she is not only a content creator but also an actor, a radio presenter, and an official global ambassador. This has helped her to enhance her personal growth and most people admire her.
Young adulthood fosters the formation of healthy relationships and social connections., Whether through friendships, mentorships or romantic relationships. These bonds provide support to most of them. Through these relationships, one may overcome career challenges which can lead to professional growth. This is because out here people persevere in networking and try to develop personal skills realizing their potential and making meaningful contributions to their fields.
In conclusion, young adulthood is a transformative journey characterized by a lot of trials and triumphs.
Challenges may seem formidable but sometimes they serve as opportunities for growth and resilience. By controlling obstacles and embracing success, young adults will emerge wiser and better people to thrive in the complexities of adulthood.
