Dangers of human-wildlife conflict as elephants sighted at Simisi

Residents of Kanziko division, Ikutha Sub County in Kitui County have been warned against invasion of at least five elephants roaming the area on Saturday. 
At least five elephants were spotted in Kanziko Division in Kitui South on Saturday.Area Assistant County Commissioner Ms Mercy Mwalegha warned residents to stay away from areas mentioned to be inhabited by the jumbos as KWS takes action in driving the jumbos away.|FILE

Area Assistant County Commissioner Mercy Mwalegha beseeched the wananchi to wait for the Kenya Wildlife Service, KWS to drive away the jumbos which were spotted in Simisi division and at Ilamba area heading towards Makenge earth dam."We request residents to be careful waiting for the KWS to take action in driving away the elephants from the area", said the ACC.

Ms Mwalegha said that it will be unfortunate hearing residents were injured by the elephants especially after they were mobilized by her office to avoid the areas where the elephants were seen.
