Modern office block work begins in Kitui Assembly

A 250 Million shillings office block will be constructed for Kitui County Assembly,  speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya has said. The contract was awarded to Centurion Engineers and Builders Limited Company. It will take two financial years to complete the work.

In order to provide ample working environment for county assembly staff, they have been relocated to Kenya Forestry Research Institute [KEFRI] by the Board.

The first term speaker said the contractor was competitively awarded the tender adding that "we gave entrusted you with great responsibility. We expect you to carry out your work with professionalism, integrity and a focus on quality".

Kyangwithya East MCA Maundu Katumbi urged the contractor to prioritize public safety in building works. He said bumps should be erected at strategic locations near the assembly in order to minimize occurrence of accidents since there is likely to be much activities once the construction works begin.

Transparency in using public funds has been brought under sharp focus with legislators being of the view that the county assembly should epitomize diligent utilization of taxpayers' funds. Nuu ward MCA Judith Wanza  said, "what we urge the contractors is that there should be openness and we look forward to seeing a magnificent office block. Let it be an excellent example to others county assemblies. In Kitui, we want to be number one not number two".
