Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has urged the Kamba community to embrace the Kenya Kwanza administration to be able to benefit enormously from numerous development projects between now and 2027.

Ngilu sensationally said there is ultimate need for the regional leaders to lead the community towards enjoying fruits of the national cake by supporting and working closely with President William Ruto and his government in the next three years.
“I urge the Kambas to position themselves strategically in the Ruto government in the remaining three years so that the region benefits tremendously in distribution of national resources. We need to be part of the current administration to reap the available opportunities,” the ex-governor said.
Speaking at the weekend during a burial of Janet Kalekye Mututo, 82, at Kangalu, Mulango ward in Kitui Central, Ngilu said Ukambani and particularly her Kitui home turf should be counted as a beneficiary of government multiple projects geared towards improvement of livelihoods, enhancement of resilience and adaptation to persistent droughts in the region.
She wondered why the region was being left out while regions such as Nyanza and Gusii were set for a significant economic boost after the government started outlining plans for a rail network in the regions.
“The move by Azimio leader Raila Odinga cooperating with Kenya Kwanza will see Kenya railways build the first –ever railway line in the region to complement the Kisumu-Nairobi rail,” Ngilu said.
The Narc party leader said Kitui was an economic sleeping giant endowed with diverse and massive resources that can be harnessed to lift up thousands of her citizens from poverty and deprivation.
She further urged regional leaders to put aside their political differences for the sake of development but rally the people to work closely with the government in ensuring challenges facing the people were solved.
Ngilu said in spite of being semi-arid, Kitui County was blessed with the capacity for dry land farming, abundant livestock, vast mineral deposits and wildlife parks suitable for tourism.
Ngilu who shelved her bid to defend her gubernatorial seat in 2022 on promise to be appointed in the cabinet should Azimio win the elections, urged the Kambas to unite for a political and economic common cause.
She said for one of their own to ascend to the presidency, the regional leaders must rally the community in acquiring national identity cards and register in large numbers as voters.
“We have to face tough choices in order to win the highest seat on the land. We must visit villages to encourage people to register as voters and come out to vote,” Ngilu said.
