Six students were killed by a speeding motor vehicle that was being driven from Makindu to Mutomo.Confirming the incident, Ikutha OCPD Raphael Mutiso said the accident happened at around 630am when children were going to school.
"All died on the spot", said Ikutha police chief.
Six pupils died in the morning accident along Kitui-Kibwezi road. A private Toyota Probox driver who caused the accident has since been arrested.|MWINGI TIMES
Those killed were five girls and a boy. The driver named Joel Kioko Kitheka drove straight to Mutomo police station where he was arrested.
Investigations are ongoing. The bodies of learners killed in the morning accident were taken to Mutomo mortuary. They were students of Kyoani Secondary and Kyoani Primary schools.
Kyoani assistant chief Patrick Mutisya called upon the government to erect speed bumps to reduce road fatalities which have been on the rise along that road. He called for all to observe road safety while using the busy highway.
