Embu Clerk Jim Kauma condemns Gachagua's divisive remarks, calls for unity

By BRIAN MUSYOKA

Embu County Assembly Clerk, Jim Kauma, has strongly condemned the divisive remarks recently made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking at Iriari Primary School in Kyeni North Ward, Kauma criticized Gachagua’s comments at a burial in Kanyuambora, Mbeere North, which he labeled as disrespectful to Embu leaders and an affront to the county's political autonomy.

Kauma argued that Gachagua’s remarks were not only an attack on local leadership but also a threat to the county’s cohesion and development agenda. He called on Embu residents to reject any form of external political interference, emphasizing that the unity of the region should not be compromised by divisive rhetoric. He highlighted that such remarks would not be tolerated in other regions and urged Embu to defend its leaders and development agenda vigorously.
Linking Gachagua’s comments to a broader political agenda, Kauma accused certain national figures of using divisive politics to undermine local leadership. He warned that such tactics were designed to create instability and distract residents from pressing developmental issues. Kauma stressed that Embu’s leaders must focus on advancing the county’s interests rather than engaging in politically motivated conflicts.

Addressing the ongoing transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA) program, Kauma urged residents to embrace the new health initiative. He warned against misinformation being spread by certain politicians, whom he accused of having ulterior motives. Kauma pointed out that these individuals, often affluent enough to seek private healthcare or treatment abroad, were misleading the public for political gain.

Kauma emphasized that the SHA program was a critical part of the government’s health agenda and would benefit ordinary citizens who rely on public healthcare services. He called on residents to register for the program and not be swayed by fearmongering or false information. He assured them that the program was designed to improve access to healthcare and reduce the financial burden on families.

During his visit, Kauma expressed deep concern over the state of Iriari Primary School, highlighting the poor condition of its infrastructure. He pointed out issues such as broken window panes and outdated lockers, which he said were clear indicators of neglect by the area’s leadership. Kauma criticized the area MP, Eric Muchangi Karemba, for failing to address the school’s needs, despite its proximity to the harsh conditions of Irangi Forest.

Kauma pledged to support the school by wiring additional classrooms to electricity, as only one classroom currently has power. He also committed to assisting the school in addressing its broader challenges, including improving the learning environment for the fewer than 100 students enrolled. Kauma assured the school’s administration and parents that he would continue to advocate for better resources and facilities.

He also emphasized the importance of the school’s feeding program, which he had supported during his visit. He noted that the program was crucial in ensuring students received adequate nutrition, which is essential for their academic performance and overall well-being. He called on the community and other leaders to join hands in supporting the school and ensuring that its students have access to quality education.

Kauma’s remarks underscored his commitment to local development and education, which he sees as key pillars in the county’s progress. He reiterated that Embu’s future depended on strong leadership that prioritized unity, development, and the welfare of its people.
His call for unity and rejection of external political interference sets the tone for his vision of a more cohesive and development-focused leadership in the county.
