CS Ruku Called Out for Trying to Influence Mbeere North By-election

By MWINGI TIMES CORRESPONDENT

The Chama Cha Kazi candidate in the Mbeere North by-election, Duncan Mbui, has launched a scathing attack against Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, accusing him of misusing government resources to advance political interests in the constituency.

While addressing locals at Kiathambu in Evurori ward, Mbui claimed that the CS had abandoned his national duty of serving Kenyans and instead turned his office into a campaign machinery for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in the upcoming polls.

According to Mbui, for the past week, CS Ruku has been traversing Mbeere North with choppers and fleets of fuel-guzzling vehicles under the guise of bringing services to the people, but in reality, engaging in political campaigns.

“You cannot hire a chopper costing over KSh 500,000 just to deliver KSh 300,000 in CDF funds to a school. At the same time, you move around with a fleet of guzzlers, all paid for by taxpayers’ money. That is pure misuse of public resources,” Mbui lamented.

He argued that such extravagance was an insult to the people of Mbeere North, many of whom continue to suffer from poor infrastructure, lack of clean water and have limited access to essential services.

Mbui further criticized CS Ruku for what he described as open meddling in the by-election, insisting that the Cabinet Secretary should concentrate on his national docket rather than influencing local politics.

“The people of Mbeere North deserve a free and fair election without the heavy hand of government officials who misuse their positions to tilt the scales,” Mbui stated.

He also questioned the government’s priorities, wondering why resources that should serve all Kenyans equally were being squandered to advance partisan political interests in one constituency.

Mbui went further to accuse CS Ruku of nepotism, alleging that he consistently pushes his close relatives into lucrative government opportunities while sidelining other wards within Mbeere North.

“Every opportunity that comes from government ends up in the hands of his family members from one ward. This is unfair and undermines the principle of equity among the three wards in Mbeere North,” Mbui said.

The Chama Cha Kazi candidate assured residents that he was best placed to deliver fair and inclusive leadership, promising to treat all wards in Mbeere North equally and to prioritize development that touches ordinary people.

“I am confident that I am the most suitable leader to serve the people of Mbeere North. My focus will be service, fairness, and development not politics of favoritism and misuse of public funds,” he declared.

As campaigns gather momentum, Mbui called on government officials to maintain neutrality and allow Mbeere North voters to freely elect their next Member of Parliament without undue influence.
