Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has described education as as a crucial pillar in the socioeconomic development of the county. "Education is a fundamental human right and a key tool for reducing poverty, promoting gender equality, and fostering peace,”said Malombe.
The governor spoke on Friday when he launched the issuance of pro-poor bursary support for Kitui learners from humble backgrounds for the fiscal year 2024/2025.The Sh. 72 million school fee support will benefit 9,433 learners from financially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The event was held at the County headquarters and attended by to County officials led by deputy governor Augustine Kanani and a number of MCAs.
The initiative will benefit all levels of education, including universities, tertiary institutions, vocational training centres, technical vocational colleges, secondary schools, and learners with special needs.
Malombe said the initiative is a result of his deliberate efforts to ensure the county prioritizes education and implements measures to boost educational standards in Kitui. He reiterated his leadership's commitment to uplifting education by initiating collaborative strategies with the national government to raise education standards in Kitui.
The Governor highlighted that investing in education is not just about funding but a way to build leaders, innovators, and thinkers. The County boss called on the youth to enroll in vocational training centres (VTCs) and gain skills essential for the job market and self-employment.
He pointed out that his administration was committed to infrastructural development as a means to bolster education.
